Topic: Desktop icons

I have installed thunderbird from source and created a thunderbird.desktop file which contains this:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Mozilla Thunderbird
Exec=/home/alan/Programs/thunderbird/thunderbird
Type=Application
StartupNotify=true
Comment=Mozilla Thunderbird Launcher
Path=/home/alan/Programs/thunderbird/thunderbird
Icon=/home/alan/Programs/icons/thunderbird_32x32.xpm
Name[en]=Thunderbird
Name[en_US]=Thunder

It doesn't work. I can start the program from both the menu entry and the command line but not from the desktop icon.
Both icons are visible

I have finally caved in. What on earth am I apparently blind to?

Re: Desktop icons

What if you drag the binary to the desktop and assign it an icon?

~ Some fragrance always lingers in the hand that gives roses ~

Re: Desktop icons

I get another icon.If I double-click it I get nothing.

Re: Desktop icons

Does it start from command line with the path you have in your .desktop file?

Re: Desktop icons

Yes, perfectly.

Re: Desktop icons

I think that the path line in your .desktop file does not and will not work
Adding the directory to PATH maybe is a workaround.
